Y20 Summit
Future leaders, head to the center of the world!   Registration for the Y20 Summit is now open to all university students from the Group of 20 economies interested in representing their nation at a major international event. The Y20 Summit is a satellite event organized by the JoongAng Ilbo and will take place in anticipation of the G20 Summit in South Korea in November. Y20 delegates will participate in discussions on the present and future of global society and will emerge from the Y20 Summit with a joint declaration summarizing their ideas. The events, held under the theme, "Future leaders, head to the center of the world!", will take place from February through October.
 Both Korean university students and foreign students studying in Korea are eligible to participate in the Y20 summit. The event will follow the format used by the G20 summit to narrow down a wide variety of opinions on a broad range of topics.
  The Y20 Summit is sponsored by the Presidential Committee for the G20 Summit and the Presidential Council on Nation Branding.   The summit will begin with an orientation in April and proceed with a working group meeting in May. The main events of the Y20 Summit will take place in October.     1. How to participate in the Y20 Summit                                                                The Y20 Summit is open to undergraduate and graduate students in Korea who have a good command of English and a keen interest in global affairs. People who wish to represent one of the G20 countries at the Y20 Summit must submit an application in English to the Y20 Summit Secretariat via e-mail. Prospective candidates must also participate in an in-person groupinterview. Those selected to participate in the Y20 Summit will be announced on the Web site (www.y20summit.com) after all applications have been reviewed. The registration deadline is March 31, 2010. At the Y20 summit, each country will be represented by 5-10 participants. Countries or international organizations of representation will be assigned according to an applicant’s preferences as indicated on his or her application form. Each delegate will participate in three preliminary meetings from April to August and the Y20 Summit in October.     2. Y20 Summit Schedule                                                           £ Role of Y20 delegates - Research and generate agenda items - Participate in scheduled meetings - Prepare monthly reports on activities to develop the agenda (details to be announced)      £ Orientation (Wednesday, April 21) Y20 Summit delegates gather for the first time to meet, network and attend lectures on the G20 and Y20 Summits.   The program schedule includes: (1) Lectures by G20 experts on global issues and protocol (2) Assignment of countries and counselors (3) Team meetings on schedules and roles   £ Working Group Meeting (Wednesday, May 19) In this session, delegates will review and select agenda items proposed by participants in the Online Agenda Competition (see below).   The program schedule includes: (1) Presentation of selected agenda items from the Online Agenda Competition (2) Panel discussions among national Y20 Summit delegates (3) Comments from counselors (4) Lectures     ***************************************************************************************************** NOTE: Anyone can enter the “Online Agenda Competition” by posting in Korean the agenda items they think should be discussed at the Y20 Summit on the Y20 Summit Web site. Participation in the competition is not limited to Y20 Summit delegates. Agenda items will be accepted from April 22 to May 14, 2010. A number of the agenda items that are chosen will be presented and shared with Y20 Summit delegates at the Working Group Meeting in May. Competition winners will be invited to participate in the Y20 Summit as observers. *****************************************************************************************************   £ Team Building Camp (Thursday, August 26 - Friday, August 27) Y20 Summit delegates will meet in a quiet suburb of Seoul for a period of reflection during which they will discuss the summit agenda and participate in a number of team-building activities. Each delegate will share the progress he or she is making on the development of the agenda and draw up a final agenda at the end of the first day.   The program schedule includes: (1) Guest lectures (2) Presentations by each delegate (3) Finalizing the agenda for the Y20 Summit in October (4) A cultural exchange program   £ Y20 Summit (Thursday, October 21 to Friday, October 22) The main event will consist of a Financial Ministerial Meeting, a Sherpa Meeting and a Leaders’ Summit.   The program schedule includes: (1) Keynote speech (2) Presentation and discussion of the final agenda by each Y20 Summit delegate (3) Y20 Summit Joint Declaration (4) Awards ceremony honoring outstanding participants (5) Closing event   ø The event dates are subject to change according to circumstances.     3. Benefits                                                                               § People selected as official G20 Youth Bloggers will be given permission to visit the G20 Summit press center in November § Honorary student reporters will be given the chance to publish articles in the JoongAng Daily §Certificate of participation   Awards from the following organizations will be given at an awards ceremony on the last day of the Y20 Summit: § The Presidential Council on Nation Branding §Sponsoring graduate schools of international studies §The JoongAng Ilbo   4.
